Promthep Cape

The Southern Tip of Phuket Island

Promthep Cape, the southern tip of Phuket Island

Promthep Cape is one of the most photographed and celebrated landmarks in Phuket. Perched at the southernmost tip of the island, it’s a must-see stop for sightseeing tours and photography lovers alike. Despite its popularity — it’s often included in tour operators’ itineraries — the walk down to the very tip of the cape remains surprisingly peaceful. The path is not particularly difficult, offering a rewarding sense of escape and panoramic beauty for those who take the short trek.

Because of its fame, the site is well developed: you’ll find a restaurant serving Thai and seafood dishes with spectacular sunset views, as well as souvenir shops and stalls selling local snacks, coconuts, and cold drinks. A small lighthouse at the viewpoint also houses a modest maritime museum and offers another elevated spot for photos.

Heads up

  • The site can get crowded with tour buses, especially around sunset

  • Parking may be challenging during peak hours

  • While the path to the end of the cape is not too demanding, take care with young children or seniors, as it can be rocky and uneven in places

  • Bring water and proper footwear if you plan to walk down the trail
