Banana Beach
A Charming Secluded Beach in Phuket

Hidden between Naithon and Bangtao beaches on Phuket’s northwest coast, Banana Beach is one of the island’s true hidden treasures. Secluded, unspoiled, and framed by lush jungle and clear turquoise water, it feels worlds away from the busy resort areas. Finding it can be a small adventure — a tiny blue sign nailed to a tree marks the spot, and visitors must park along the roadside before following a steep, shaded path down through the trees to the sand. Alternatively, you can reach the beach by long-tail boat from Nai Yang, Nai Thon, or Bangtao; just remember to negotiate the price beforehand, especially if you’re traveling in a small group.
Though it has become less of a “secret beach” in recent years, Banana Beach has retained its calm and laid-back atmosphere. Even during high season, crowds are rare, and the setting remains peaceful. A small, family-run restaurant on the beach serves simple Thai and international dishes, fresh coconuts, and cool drinks. It also rents out snorkelling gear (a deposit is required).
The northern and southern ends of the bay offer surprisingly good snorkelling, with clear water and plenty of colorful fish gliding over rocky reefs.
During the low season (May to November), the sea can become rough, and swimming is not recommended due to strong waves and currents. For those who enjoy exploring, the small jungle paths and rocky creeks north of the beach are worth wandering — an untouched pocket of nature that still feels like old Phuket.

Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Banana Beach is from December to April, when the sea is calm, clear, and ideal for swimming or snorkeling. The steep path can be slippery after rain, so visiting during the dry months ensures easier access and better conditions on the sand. Morning visits are particularly magical, with soft sunlight filtering through the trees and few people around.
