Rawai Beach
A Genuine Local Beach in Phuket

Rawai Beach, at the southern tip of Phuket, is very different from the island’s typical swimming beaches. Rather than a place for sunbathing, it is a working waterfront — the island’s historic fishermen’s harbor and one of its most authentic coastal communities. Longtail boats line the shore beneath tall casuarina trees, while fishermen prepare their nets or head out to sea.
Swimming is not ideal due to shallow waters and boat traffic, but Rawai offers something equally valuable: atmosphere. The beachfront is lined with simple yet excellent seafood restaurants where you can enjoy freshly caught fish and local specialties while overlooking nearby islands. At the Sea Gypsy Village, the Rawai Seafood Market lets you buy fresh seafood and have it cooked on the spot.
Rawai is also a great starting point for island hopping. Longtail boats can take you to Coral Island, Koh Bon, Koh Lone, or even the Racha Islands.
Beyond the beach, Rawai has grown into a lively residential area with cafés, restaurants, dive shops, and local markets. With nearby attractions like Nai Harn and Promthep Cape, it’s an excellent base to explore the south and experience a more authentic side of Phuket.
