Banzaan Fresh Market in Patong

Discover Thai Flavours in a Cool Food Market

Banzaan Fresh Market in Patong - Discover Thai Flavours in a Cool Food Market

Banzaan Fresh Market is one of the most interesting places to explore for food lovers in Patong. Located on Nanai Road, just behind Jungceylon Shopping Mall, this modern two-storey market combines a traditional fresh market with a large food court and restaurants.

The ground floor is packed with stalls selling fresh seafood, meat, vegetables, fruit, herbs, spices and other ingredients, while the upper floor is where you can sit down for a meal.

One of Banzaan's main attractions is the opportunity to select fresh seafood downstairs and have it cooked to order upstairs. The market is open throughout the day, with a morning food market and a livelier evening scene when the surrounding area fills with street-food stalls.

Ground Floor: Fresh Market

The ground floor is the heart of Banzaan Fresh Market and is divided into clearly organised sections. Seafood is one of the main attractions, with displays of fish, prawns, crabs, shellfish and other catches, while separate areas sell fresh meat, poultry, vegetables and tropical fruits. You will also find herbs, spices, sauces, dried ingredients and other groceries used in Thai cooking.

Compared with many traditional fresh markets, Banzaan is housed in a modern building and the stalls are relatively easy to navigate. Even if you are not planning to buy anything, it is worth taking a walk around simply to see the colourful produce and the variety of seafood. If you want something ready to eat, there are also stalls selling prepared dishes and other food to take away.

First Floor: Food Court and Restaurants

The first floor is where the market's famous seafood-to-table concept comes into play. After choosing your seafood downstairs, you can take it upstairs and have one of the food stalls prepare it for you, whether grilled, fried, steamed or cooked with a Thai-style sauce. The large food court has more than 200 seats and also offers plenty of dishes that do not require a trip downstairs first.

You will find Thai favourites, noodles, rice dishes, dim sum, congee, chicken rice, drinks and desserts, as well as halal food. The morning market is particularly popular for breakfast, while the food court continues serving throughout the day. There are also restaurants (Louis Street Kitchen) and smaller stalls around the dining area, giving you plenty of choice even if seafood is not your thing.

Things to Know About Banzaan Market

Banzaan is open every day, currently from around 6am until midnight, although the atmosphere changes considerably during the day. The morning market runs roughly from 6am to 1pm, making it an interesting place for breakfast and an early look at local life. From around 6pm, the outdoor area becomes a night market, with street-food stalls, snacks, drinks and desserts adding another reason to visit after dark.

The market has parking for cars and more than 200 motorcycles, and there are clean public toilets and a prayer room. Prices for fresh seafood are generally based on weight, so check the price before buying and consider looking around several stalls first. Banzaan is also directly behind Jungceylon, making it easy to combine with shopping in central Patong.
