A Popular Night Market in Phuket Old Town

Phuket Walking Street - A Popular Night Market in Phuket Old Town

Phuket Walking Street is one of the most popular night markets on the island, held every Sunday in the heart of Phuket Old Town along Thalang Road.

From around 4 pm to 9 pm, this historic street transforms into a lively pedestrian zone filled with food stalls, local crafts, and street performances. Stretching for about 350 metres, the market gathers nearly a hundred vendors offering everything from Thai street food to handmade souvenirs.

Shops, cafés, and bars along the street remain open, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. During high season, the crowd can be intense, but the experience is worth it—wander slowly, taste local delicacies, and soak in the unique blend of culture, flavours, and entertainment.

What to Eat at Phuket Walking Street

Food is one of the main highlights of Phuket Walking Street, making it a paradise for street food lovers. You’ll find a wide variety of traditional Thai dishes such as grilled seafood, skewered meats, spicy sausages, and freshly made pad Thai. Sweet treats are equally tempting, with options like mango sticky rice, coconut pancakes, and colourful Thai desserts.

Don’t miss the chance to try local Phuket specialties, often influenced by Chinese and Peranakan cuisine. Many stalls prepare dishes right in front of you, adding to the sensory experience with sizzling sounds and delicious aromas. Whether you’re looking for a quick snack or a full meal, the market offers something for every taste and budget.

Beyond food, the market is a great place to shop for unique souvenirs and handmade goods. Vendors sell a wide range of products, including clothing, accessories, handicrafts, and local artwork. You can find handmade jewelry, batik fabrics, wooden carvings, and creative gifts that reflect Thai culture.

Many items are locally produced, making them more authentic than what you might find in tourist shops elsewhere. Prices are generally reasonable, and while bargaining is not as common as in traditional markets, it can still be done politely. Whether you’re looking for a meaningful souvenir or just browsing, the variety and creativity of the stalls make shopping here enjoyable.

Tips & Things to Know

Visiting Phuket Walking Street can be a fantastic experience if you come prepared. Arriving early in the evening helps you avoid the largest crowds and gives you more time to explore comfortably. Since the street gets very busy, wear light clothing and comfortable shoes, and keep an eye on your belongings.

Parking near Thalang Road can be difficult, so consider using a taxi or ride-hailing apps like Grab. Bring cash, as most vendors do not accept cards.
