After Beach Bar

Relaxed Atmosphere & Scenic Views above Kata Noi

After Beach Bar - Relaxed Atmosphere & Scenic Views above Kata Noi

After Beach Bar is one of Phuket’s best-known hillside bars, perched above Kata Noi Beach on the scenic road connecting Kata and Nai Harn. Famous for its relaxed reggae atmosphere and panoramic views over the turquoise bay, it has been attracting visitors for decades.

The venue combines a casual restaurant, a bar and several wooden terraces built into the hillside, creating a laid-back place to stop for a drink, enjoy a meal or watch the sunset.

Although several similar establishments have opened right next door over the years, After Beach Bar remains a landmark in this part of southern Phuket. It is particularly popular in the late afternoon, when the views over Kata Noi are at their most inviting.

Decor and Atmosphere

After Beach Bar has a distinctive, slightly rustic character that feels very different from Phuket’s more polished beach clubs. Traditional thatched roofs, wooden furniture, colourful decorations and open-air terraces create a relaxed tropical setting, while reggae music and references to Bob Marley give the place its unmistakable identity.

The main attraction, however, is the spectacular view from the hillside. The terraces overlook Kata Noi Bay, with its turquoise water, sandy beach and green headlands stretching into the distance. Some seating areas extend out over the slope on wooden structures, adding to the venue’s unusual charm.

The atmosphere is generally informal and welcoming, attracting couples, groups of friends and travellers looking for a scenic place to unwind. Come before sunset if you want to enjoy the changing colours over the bay.

What to Eat and Drink at After Beach Bar

The menu at After Beach Bar offers a wide selection of Thai and international dishes, making it possible to enjoy anything from a light snack to a full meal. Thai favourites include Pad Thai, green curry, spicy papaya salad and various rice and noodle dishes, while seafood and fried fish are also available.

The menu is extensive, so there should be something to suit most tastes, although the setting is arguably the main reason to come here. For drinks, you can choose from cold beers, cocktails, soft drinks and fresh coconut juice, which is particularly enjoyable on a hot afternoon.

A simple drink on the terrace is a good way to appreciate the scenery without committing to a full meal. If you plan to eat, arriving before the sunset rush can make it easier to find a good table.

Other Things to Know

After Beach Bar was the pioneer on this hillside stretch, becoming established long before several neighbouring venues opened beside it. Small View Point and Baan Chom View are among the nearby alternatives, offering similar elevated views over Kata Noi Bay, while the newer venues have added more choice to this scenic stop along the road to Nai Harn. Parking is available by the roadside, and attendants may help direct vehicles into available spaces, particularly when it gets busy.

One detail worth watching is the bill: the menu indicates that a 10% service charge is added, but the note is printed in small text and can easily be overlooked when checking prices. Remember to factor this in when ordering. The bar is especially popular around sunset, so arrive early if you want a table with an unobstructed view. As the terraces are elevated above the slope, keep an eye on children and take care near the edges.
