Surin Beach
A pristine beach in Phuket
Surin Beach still holds a genuine Thai charm, with its small three-wheeler carts selling tropical fruits, grilled chicken, and local snacks near the municipal parking area. Before 2014, Surin was one of Phuket’s most developed beaches — a trendy spot known for its stylish beach clubs, lively bars, and sunset dining right on the sand.
That changed when local authorities decided to restore Surin to its natural state, reclaiming the beach from commercial development. In Thailand, all beaches are public land, so technically, no private businesses can operate directly on them.
While such rules are often loosely applied elsewhere, Surin underwent a rare and thorough cleanup that removed all beachfront structures. Today, it has returned to its pristine, peaceful beauty — a wide expanse of golden sand and clear turquoise water framed by casuarina trees.
There’s no real resort town at Surin, but you’ll find a good range of hotels, restaurants, and small boutiques along nearby Srisoonthorn Road. Just north of Surin lies Pansea Beach, a secluded cove home to two of Phuket’s most exclusive resorts: The Surin and Amanpuri, both renowned for their discreet luxury and stunning views.

When to Visit
The best time to visit Surin Beach is between December and April, when the sea is calm and the weather sunny. From May to October, Surin becomes a favorite surfing destination, offering gentler crowds and a more peaceful, local atmosphere — perfect for travelers looking to unwind away from Phuket’s busier spots.
