Muang Phuket District

Muang Phuket District covers approximately 224 square kilometres and occupies much of the southern and southeastern part of Phuket Island. The district includes Phuket Town and extends from the central hills to a varied coastline with beaches, rocky headlands, bays, and offshore islands. Its landscape ranges from densely developed urban areas to forested hills and rural communities. Historically, tin mining and maritime trade played a major role in the area's development, particularly around Phuket Town, while fishing and agriculture have also long been important to local communities. Today, the economy is highly diversified. 

Tourism is a major source of income, supported by hotels, restaurants, shopping, entertainment, beaches, boat trips, and other visitor services. Phuket Town is also the province's main commercial and administrative centre, providing employment in government, healthcare, education, retail, and professional services. Agriculture and fishing remain present, particularly in less urbanised parts of the district, while the surrounding waters and coastal environment continue to support tourism and local livelihoods.
