Chalong

Chalong is not really a village, but rather a sprawling mix of shops, businesses, restaurants, and other establishments lining the two main north-south roads, Chaofa East Road and Chaofa West Road. The two roads meet at the famous Chalong Roundabout, where many commuters have to exercise patience behind the wheel during peak hours.

Chalong Bay serves as a harbour and is equipped with a 720-metre-long pier. Chalong Pier is an important departure and arrival point for boat excursions and transfers to the islands surrounding Phuket, including the Phi Phi Islands, Coral Island, and the Racha Islands. Numerous scuba diving companies also operate from here, taking divers to the many dive sites located east of Phuket.

Chalong Bay has slightly brackish waters due to the Chalong River meeting the sea, and mangroves can be found in the northern part of the bay. Apart from Ao Yon and two other beaches in the northeastern part of the bay, as well as Laem Ka to the south, the beaches around Chalong are not particularly suitable for swimming, as the seabed is relatively muddy.

Chalong is also well known for its restaurants along the waterfront. Some, such as Kan Eang Seafood, have become local institutions thanks to their long history. The area around the pier and the road leading to it from the roundabout is also lined with numerous restaurants and bars.
