Best Attractions in Kata Beach
What to See and Do in Kata Beach, Phuket

Kata Beach is one of Phuket’s most popular resort areas, known for its beautiful coastline, relaxed atmosphere, and good mix of activities. While it may feel more compact than places like Patong, there are still plenty of things to see and do both in and around Kata.
From stunning beaches and scenic viewpoints to fun attractions and seasonal activities like surfing, the area offers something for every type of traveller.
Whether you’re looking to relax by the sea, enjoy a bit of adventure, or explore nearby highlights, Kata is a great base to experience the best of Phuket without the crowds and chaos of busier areas. Here are some of the best attractions in Kata to include in your itinerary.

Beaches (Kata, Kata Noi & Karon)

The main attraction in the area is undoubtedly its trio of beautiful beaches. Kata Beach is the most popular, with soft sand, clear water, and plenty of restaurants nearby. Just south, Kata Noi offers a quieter and more scenic setting, ideal for relaxing. To the north, Karon Beach stretches for several kilometres and is usually less crowded. Together, these beaches provide a great variety of atmospheres within a short distance.
Opening hours: Open daily (public beaches)
Location: West coast of Phuket, between Karon and Kata Noi

Originally known as Kata Viewpoint, then Kata–Karon Viewpoint, and now Karon Viewpoint, it is one of the most famous viewpoints in Phuket, offering panoramic views over three beaches: Kata Noi, Kata, and Karon. It’s an easy stop along the coastal road and a great place for photos, especially in the morning or late afternoon when the light is softer. The viewpoint is easily accessible and often included in island tours, but still worth visiting independently. Read more...

Surfing in Kata Beach

During the low season, from May to October, Kata Beach becomes one of the best surfing spots in Phuket. Waves are generally moderate, making it suitable for beginners as well as intermediate surfers. Several surf schools and rental shops operate along the beach, offering lessons and boards. It’s a fun and active way to enjoy the sea during a time of year when swimming conditions can sometimes be rough.

Super Surf Kata

Super Surf Kata is an artificial wave attraction located near the southern end of Kata Beach Road, offering a safe and controlled environment to learn or practice surfing. The setup is suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to more experienced riders. Instructors are available, and sessions are supervised, making it a good option for families or anyone wanting to try surfing without heading into the ocean. Super Surf Kata is also a popular bar and restaurant with a good musical atmosphere.
Opening hours: Daily, approx. 10:00 am – 10:00 pm
Location: On Kata Beach Road, next to Club med Phuket
Dino Park

Dino Park is a fun and slightly quirky attraction combining a mini-golf course with a dinosaur-themed setting. The course winds through caves, volcanoes, and life-sized dinosaur statues, making it especially popular with families and kids. The atmosphere is relaxed and entertaining, and there is also a restaurant on site. It’s a good option for an evening activity after a day at the beach.
Opening hours: Daily, approx. 10:00 am – 11:00 pm
Location: Between Kata and Karon Beach, on the main road
Exploring the South Coast of Phuket

Beyond the main attractions mentioned above, the south coast of Phuket offers a great selection of places to discover at your own pace. The best way to explore this area is by scooter, allowing you to fully enjoy the unique sensation of riding through tropical landscapes and warm coastal scenery.
Starting from Kata, head past Karon Viewpoint and continue south towards Nai Harn Beach. Take some time to explore the peaceful lagoon and visit the nearby temple before heading up to Windmill Viewpoint for another fabulous panoramic stop. From there, continue to Ya Nui Beach, one of the best spots in Phuket for snorkeling.
End your journey at Rawai Beach, where you can visit the local Gypsy Village and enjoy fresh seafood right by the sea—a perfect way to finish a scenic coastal ride.
